E-file vs regular manicure

Regular or traditional manicure (Old style)

Provided that you don’t have any gel or acrylic to be removed first, the regular or basic manicure starts with the nail technician soaking your hand in warm soapy water to soothe and soften the cuticles. Then they buff, file, and trim the cuticles. This technique is fast, simple, and has been around for a long time but we can only get so much with just a pair of nippers! The water also softens not just your dead skin but the skin on your hand that’s still alive, often making it hard to tell which to nip off. If a nail technician takes off too much then it can cause trauma to the cuticle. It may look OK for the first 24 hours but afterward, it will start peeling upwards and possibly even get inflammation.

Traditional manicure

Efile or Russian manicure (New style)

The E-file (electric file) manicure is a modern technique using new tools available to nail technicians and is performed on dry skin.  For several years, E-file manicure has been the number one nail trend in the West and overseas. This manicure stands out because of its intricacy and attention to detail. Made according to all the rules, it really arouses admiration: the main thing is to choose the right master who will definitely not make common mistakes and turn your nails into a work of art. This manicure is known under different names as “Russian”, “combined” or “E-file” manicure. Although it is often called Russian manicure, it has been originally developed in Germany.

We use different E-file bits to push back and exfoliate the dead skin which gives a more clean, polished, and healthy look, especially longer term! There are lots of speculations online that the E-file manicure is dangerous because it pushes and sands your skin too much, breaking the protective seal. This is possible if your nail technician is not experienced enough to recognize the differences in your skin and nail type! An electric file is a professional tool, as well as the other techniques and products used in E-file manicure. When used properly it will deliver amazing results! Make sure to go to someone experienced who knows how to work with such tools!

Also, many believe hand-filing is safer than e-filing, which is not necessarily true. Hand-filing is a very important and fundamental skill and it comes in very handy when the power goes out or your e-file is being repaired. Although you need to know how to hand-file before you e-file, hand-filing has just as much potential to cause damage as its automated colleague. It just depends on who is the professional doing the filing and how well trained they are.

Pros of “E-file” or “Russian” manicure:

What sets this manicure apart from the traditional routine is the cuticle work. The technician uses an electric filer to open up the eponychium to remove the cuticle. This allows getting the gel polish deep into that pocket so your manicure is flawless without photoshop and lasts longer. Nail processing by hardware is carried out using a combination of various nozzles, the choice of which depends on the nature of the work performed. If the master does everything right, the result will not disappoint: the milling machine gently removes the cuticle, leaving no roughness or damage on the skin. The advantage of this method is that it eliminates the need to pre-steam the nails and then cut off excess skin, which reduces the risk of infection. After the procedure, nozzles and instruments are necessarily sterilized in an autoclave with hot steam.
Typically, you’ll get up to four weeks out of the E-file manicure, making them worth the high price point. Keep in mind this will vary depending on how fast your nails grow.
